Art for Social Change

Hailing from Peshawar, Pakistan, Khumariyaan (“The Intoxicators”) was born in the age of Talibanisation and sectarian violence. They are advocates for building cultural bridges through Pashtu folk music, creating trance-like ambient pieces that rely on fierce instrumentals rather than lyrics as the driving force. Following a performance, the band will discuss the power of musicians and cultural preservationists to engage youth, advocate for social change, and counter extremist narratives. For Khumariyaan, existence is resistance.
